SDGs: Quality Education, Clean Water & Sanitation, Decent Work & Economic Growth
The Youth Assembly is simply one of the most enriching and inspiring experiences I’ve hadLara Stela David Alves
Lara is a Brazilian Civil Engineering student, specializing in Sanitary Engineering at the University of Florida. She has also been a student at University of São Paulo, in Brazil, and Delft University of Technology, in the Netherlands, where she developed research in the area of shock electrodialysis and photoelectrocatalysis for water treatment. Apart from her university involvement in engineering research, she has also been a finalist at the São Paulo Science and Engineering Fair when she was 15, and dreams of promoting impact in her area of expertise in the future.
However, Science isn’t the only thing she’s passionate about. With an entrepreneurial spirit, Lara founded an innovation company in 2016, with which she funded the establishment of ProDuca for Education, in 2018. ProDuca is a mentoring program aimed at Brazilian high schoolers from unprivileged backgrounds who want to develop professional and academic skills in order to join the most competitive universities in Brazil and abroad. The program became so successful that ProDuca acquired 2 business partners that help support the organization.
Lara believes quality education is the key for social and economic development, being the most powerful tool able to bring positive impact to all the other Sustainable Development Goals. That way, her focus area is Education and she’s excited to welcome all the delegates into the 24th Session of the Youth Assembly.
