11th Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations
REGISTRATION OPEN: April 16, 2012
"If you saw the impact you have had on the youth (and young at heart) attending the Assembly you would have to shade your eyes from the brightness of hope."
- Paulette Schatz, Project Manager, United Nations Development Programme, Afghanistan
Application procedure
- Review the terms of participation (so these come as no surprise later)! We also recommend that you review the F.A.Q page.
- Fill in the on-line application form (links provided below)
- Expedite your payment of the application processing fee. We would like to remind you that we have to receive your registration fee net (after bank tax or fee). Thus we kindly ask you to cover the costs of the transfer. Applications will be reviewed only after payment is received.
- Send a scanned copy of the application processing fee to apply4ya@faf.org
- When your application is reviewed and approved, you will be issued a Formal Acceptance Letter. You will need to bring this with you to the Youth Assembly Registration in January, as this will serve as your “assembly ticket”.
- Apply for a US visa (if necessary).
- Complete your registration according to the instructions in your Formal Acceptance Letter.
All applicants please note:
Understanding that the annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations grows out of a relationship with the NGO community affiliated with the Department of Public Information and others, thereby the events are to be primarily informational and inspirational. The YA is NOT for the preparation of plenary statements or petitions and the like; the YA is an idea leadership event that offers practical advice, guidance, networking, and outreach to those who attend.
Application processing fees:
Regular applications: $100
Least Developed Countries: $65
Delegates from these countries must present their identification card at the registration desk prior to the Assembly to verify their eligibility for the reduced fee in order to receive their entrance passes. Delegates who fail to verify their eligibility will be required to pay the difference plus $5 handling fee on spot or be denied admittance to the Assembly.
Groups of 12 or more people: $65 per person ($55 LDCs)
Group leaders must be able to submit the names of each and every group member during the on-line registration process and pay for all applicants in one sum.
The application processing fee is non-refundable. The registration fee net (after bank tax or fee) must be received prior to application review. Wire transfer applicants: remember to include all bank costs over the cost of registration. All applications will be reviewed once complete processing fees are received. Thank you.

If you are required to have a visa to enter the United States:
- We encourage you to take advantage of pre-registration and submit your visa application early on as it is often a very lengthy process.
- FAF will provide approved applicants with a Formal Acceptance Notice to attend the Assembly. Present this official note to the U.S. Embassy at your interview if you are applying for a visa.
- Please note that the acceptance notice does NOT guarantee the issuance of a visa or admittance to the United States. Visa issuance is entirely contingent upon the U.S. Embassy’s and Consulate’s discretion, and admittance upon the Immigration authorities’ (INS) discretion at the point of entry.
- FAF cannot make personal phone calls or requests on your behalf to specific Embassies or Consulates. Intervention with the diplomatic and consular affairs by a host organization is not possible, and reliance on such phone calls may slow your application process as well as decrease your chances of obtaining a visa.
Due to the extremely high cost of the use of United Nations facilities for the Assembly, staffing, insurance, and speakers' fees, no subsidies are possible beyond free admission to all activities inside the United Nations at this time. No other support is available through FAF in terms of application processing fees, visa application, nor for any travel, special events, accommodations, or meals at this time.
We suggest you check local organizations and associations, such as the Lions or Rotary clubs in your area. Other delegates have found that a search through the internet, academic scholarships, local and national sources, and even family relations can also be a source of subsidy and support.
