WORKSHOPS DESCRIPTIONS

Jay Grimes

To understand Joe Pilates and how he ran his studio, you must first understand the culture of the time in which he lived and worked. Jay Grimes will first talk, then answer your questions, about what life was like in the studio on a daily basis, who populated it, what Joe expected of his students and teachers, how they were treated, and how the studio functioned. It was a very different world, and the studio was very different from anything that exists today.

"As I Live and Breathe"

But when you learn that they are one and the same, your workouts take on a whole new dimension. In this workshop, you'll learn about lung function, the muscles of respiration and how to increase the cardio-respiratory power of a Pilates session.

This 2-hour workshop is part visual-aid, projection, and part workout.

"Working With Our Real Clients As They Age"

As a baby boomers facing senior mode it can be a daunting state we find ourselves in. We are meant to shed muscle mass as we age but that doesn’t mean we get rid of our strength we need not become weak and vulnerable. Great habits result in better fitness for all ages, better flexibility can reduce the pain of arthritis. As we age we need to focus on strength, balance, flexibility, endurance, posture and circulation. More often than not someone over 70 is not ready to jump on the equipment; I will show you a little Pilates based routine to prepare someone for the Pilates equipment; which can be the best thing for our bodies as we age.

"Getting the Best from Your Clients"

There are always going to be people who come in to your studio and "try" Pilates.  Some of them will not stay around no matter what you do.  For those who are on the fence there are steps you can take to enhance their experience.  I would love to share with you what I have learned in terms of "Staying Power" for your clients.  Everyone wants smaller waist and thighs.  Tighter buttocks and tummy and also as we know part of the fabolous benefits of Our classical Pilates Method.  Helping your client go deeper in to their powerhouse and learn to control the body can be very challenging.  The decompression of the spine is so important to our health especially as we get older.  When your clients has more energy stands taller and people notice…you will have them for a long time.  There is so much more to our work than people realize.  Everyone is looking for motivation and inspiration to keep going, clients and teachers alike!  Romana Kryzanowska used to say if you can learn one thing about the body in a class or a workshop you are a genius of the body.  I will do my best to take you there!

"Rock Your Teaser"

If Pilates had a poster-child – it would be the Teaser.  This signature move embodies the strength and control of the method all while appearing effortless and graceful.  For some, a successful Teaser is made near impossible for a host of reasons. Whatever the roadblock, this workshop will make your Teaser both accessible and achievable.  Participants will use a combination of dynamic stretching, Isometric strengthening and integrated movements to address range of motion limitations and muscle weaknesses. Teasers 1 through 3 will be our focus.
