Friendship Ambassadors Foundation is a non-governmental organization formally associated with the UN Department of Public Information, and with consultative status with UNESCO and ECOSOC. For 45 years, FAF has engendered a variety of programs that promote youth leadership and peace through cultural exchange. Social Media / Digital Design Intern

Internship period: Fall 2018/Winter 2019

We are accepting applications for Fall/Winter internships in all areas of work related to the planning, organizing, and implementation activities and events for the 23rd Session of The Youth Assembly.

Undergraduate/postgraduate students and recent graduates are eligible to apply. The preferred candidate must be located in the Greater New York area and available to work in our office located in Greenwich, CT for at least 20 hours per week. Non-paid, Travel reimbursement provided

Social Media and Digital Design Interns support the execution of communications efforts that promote The Youth Assembly mission and provide a rich platform for youth voices around the world. All interns may share responsibilities as needed, therefore a successful candidate will be a well-rounded communicator with strong aesthetic sense and impeccable social media and marketing skills. The position requires working at least 20 hours per week at our office located in Greenwich, CT.

General Responsibilities:

  • Identify avenues for media partnership to increase brand awareness for both the organization and the Youth Assembly
  • Develop press kits, flyers, booklets, and other communication materials
  • Assist the Communications Specialist in handling press inquiries
  • Assist in executing communication activities on site during the Youth Assembly, including interviews, broadcasts, media activations, and documentation
  • Draft or proofread press releases and other communication vehicles as needed
  • Contact members of the press to cover significant events during the Youth Assembly
  • Assist the Youth Assembly team with other miscellaneous tasks as needed

Digital Design

The Digital Design Intern will play a vital role in the development of communication materials and digital assets and help transform our strategic goals into dynamic and engaging visuals.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understand and translate strategic organization goals and requirements into visually compelling materials
  • Create graphics for social media, website, newsletters, and email campaigns
  • Design, layout, or edit certificates, banners, flyers, booklet, signages, Powerpoint templates, and other conference materials
  • Maintain brand identities across print and digital platforms
  • Lead video content development and production
  • Organize and maintain photo, video, and media archives
  • Help maintain and update websites using Squarespace and WordPress
  • Perform general responsibilities as stated above

Social Media

The Social Media Intern will be responsible for maintaining a strong digital presence for the organization and our programs across multiple social media platforms, as well as creating interesting and informative content that excites and resonates with young audiences.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create and distribute engaging content via social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
  • Pitch ideas and write articles for The Youth Assembly blog
  • Implement and evaluate the effectiveness of social media campaigns
  • Conduct research on social media trends and competitive insights
  • Manage Facebook groups, while engaging and interacting with our social media community
  • Perform general responsibilities as stated above

Requirements:

  • At least one (1) year of relevant internship experience is required; work experience preferred
  • Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Film/Photography, or Graphic Design major or graduate; International Relations major with interest in Communications are welcome
  • Must be savvy in various social media platforms
  • Exceptional writing and interpersonal skills, as well as excellent phone and email etiquette
  • Graphic design, photography, video editing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, photo and video editing applications
  • Familiarity of content management platforms, web developing tools, HootSuite, HTML, and CSS
  • Must be living in the Greater New York City area

Program Planning & Development Intern

Basic Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Programme Specialist to ensure that all aspects the program agenda are done in a timely manner, within budget, and the desired level of quality
  • Propose ideas to develop and improve the conference agenda
  • Proactively troubleshoot any emerging problems during both the planning and the actual days of the event
  • Liaise confidently and professionally with Youth Assembly speakers and presenters
  • Preparing timely thank-you notes to speakers, sponsors, and key partners after the event
  • Conduct post-event evaluation and debriefs to determine how future events can be improved
  • Willing to tackle other duties as assigned to ensure the overall success of the Youth Assembly

Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years’ relevant internship and/or work experience preferred
  • Must have a strong interest in international development and youth development
  • Experience or knowledge of the United Nations preferred
  • Must be able to work under strict deadlines
  • Have a creative approach to developing ideas and solving problems

Delegate Selection & Registration Intern

  • Assist Head of the Youth Assembly Selection & Registration Committee in reviewing, selection, and processing of incoming applications and payments
  • Answer delegate inquiries over the phone and email
  • Assist in setting up and breaking down registration/information desk during the Youth Assembly
  • Welcome attendees, distribute their passes, and check-in attendees as they arrive at the desk and distribute their conference materials
  • Proactively troubleshoot any emerging problems during both the planning and the actual days of the event
  • Assist with other miscellaneous tasks as needed

  • Work with the Special Events Planning & Logistics Coordinator in leading groups of delegates during the Youth Assembly and extended programs
  • Proactively troubleshoot any emerging problems during both the planning and the actual days of the event
  • Assisting with other miscellaneous tasks as needed

    Assist in the selection process for Youth Assembly scholarship and awards
  • Identify and engage talented youth during the Youth Assembly
  • Assist in volunteer recruitment process
  • Organize and maintain databases
  • Help draft and proofread letters and other communications, as needed
  • Help conduct post-Youth Assembly activities
  • Collaborate with other departmental teams for planning youth engagement and development
  • Assist with other miscellaneous tasks as needed
