Youth Assembly Program Coordinator

We are looking for a mission-driven and high-spirited Program Coordinator with significant experience working with the United Nations or international NGOs to join the small and dynamic team behind one of the most impactful youth gatherings around the world – The Youth Assembly. This role is currently a project-based position, which can turn into full-time employment following a performance review.

The preferred candidate must have a proven track record of successful work experience in conference planning and program development, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Social Sciences, Marketing, Education, Business or Nonprofit Management or related fields. This is a great opportunity for someone who is interested in engaging in long-term planning, development, and expansion of organizational programming.

This position plays a fundamental role in engaging key players in sustainable development, including the United Nations, civil society organizations, and the private sector. The role also provides opportunities to develop meaningful connections, as well as transferable and critical skills in program management in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan, and organize the programming for the (2018 Summer) 22nd Session of The Youth Assembly
  • Work closely with all staff members including Youth Development, Logistics, Registration, and Communications to ensure that all aspects of the program planning are conducted in a timely manner, and of the utmost quality
  • Liaise with Youth Assembly speakers, presenters, and workshop leaders to ensure timely submission of session proposals and smooth preparation of all Youth Assembly sessions and activities
  • Engage, cultivate, and expand various program partnerships across a variety of sectors, including the United Nations
  • Oversee programming interns and volunteers throughout the program planning and execution of the 22nd session of The Youth Assembly
  • Provide oversight and proactively troubleshoot any emerging problems related to program management of the Youth Assembly
  • Maintain and cultivate productive relationships with partners and speakers virtually and in person
  • Meet with high-level officials and key individuals from NGOs and the private sector and gather important resource or connections for the organization
  • Lead the development of the structure and writing of the Outcome Document, which will be made available to all FAF stakeholders, including Permanent Missions to the UN and other appropriate UN entities
  • Conduct post-event evaluation and participate in event debrief to identify opportunities and challenges in conducting the program
  • Perform speaking roles during the event
  • Additional duties as assigned or needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Studies/Affairs, Social Sciences, or other related majors
  • Applicable knowledge or familiarity of critical issues in peace and sustainable development, as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Communications Coordinator

We are seeking a well-rounded Communications Coordinator to be part of the small and dynamic team behind one of the most impactful youth gatherings around the world – The Youth Assembly. From planning to execution, the Communications Coordinator will support all communication, community-building, and engagement efforts to help build a vibrant community of stakeholders and partners. A successful candidate will have impeccable copywriting and editing skills for various media, digital marketing or fundraising skills, and experience with audience building and engagement. Graphic design and media relation skills are a huge plus. This role is currently a project-based position, which can turn into full-time employment following a performance review.

This position will be responsible for maintaining a strong digital presence for the organization and our programs across multiple channels, as well as creating interesting and informative content that excites and resonates with young audiences. He/she will also play a vital role in transforming our goals into strategic campaigns and compelling content.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the team to develop and execute communication strategies that promote FAF’s mission and its program objectives

Member, Program Committee (Volunteer)

We are creating a Youth Assembly Program Committee to assist in the planning, development, and coordination of activities and events for the 22nd Session of The Youth Assembly.

The program committee will consist of at least four (4) members who are thought leaders and advocates for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. FAF is looking for professionals who have/are:

Qualifications:

  • Applicable knowledge or familiarity of critical issues in peace and sustainable development, as well as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
  • Accessible connections with potential speakers, including development and peace-keeping practitioners or experts
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Preferably in International Relations, Social Sciences, Education, Business, STEM, or related fields)
  • Relevant experience in conference or program management in the youth, peace, or development sector
  • Excellent writing, interpersonal, and public speaking skills
  • Savvy in using file-sharing and collaboration tools and web-conferencing software
  • Based in New York / Connecticut

Responsibilities:

All members of the Program Committee are expected to collaborate with the Program Coordinator (Program Committee Chair) in delivering the work within specific timeframes. The working timelines will be determined and provided by the Program Coordinator. While most of the tasks can be done remotely, all members should participate in weekly meetings with the Program Coordinator and be able to attend the events on-site.

  • Assist the Program Coordinator (Program Committee Chair) in expanding the initial program concept and shaping the program content of several activities and events for the 22nd Session of The Youth Assembly
  • Identify and select topics based on the needs/objectives of the 22nd Session and as per Program Coordinator’s approval
  • Develop and write a concept note/rationale for each topic (Each member will work on six (6) sessions)
  • Identify speakers or organizations to deliver the session, make connections, and initiate conversations as per Program Coordinator’s approval
  • Assist Program Coordinator in evaluating proposals
  • Stay updated on speaker/program partner correspondences and provide timely responses to inquiries or requests
  • Coordinate with Program Coordinator in determining and attending relevant UN or related meetings to gather resources or contacts and keep abreast of issue developments
  • Work closely with Program Coordinator and interns in organizing and executing events on-site
  • Contribute in the development of the structure and writing of the Outcome Document, which will be made available to all FAF stakeholders, including Permanent Missions to the UN and other appropriate UN entities (Deliverable: Outcome Document)
  • Participate in post-event evaluation to provide feedback and help identify opportunities and challenges in conducting the program (Deliverable: Program Assessment Report)
  • Other duties as necessary

Social Media and Digital Design Interns support the execution of communications efforts that promote The Youth Assembly mission and provide a rich platform for youth voices around the world. All interns may share responsibilities as needed, therefore a successful candidate will be a well-rounded communicator with strong aesthetic sense and impeccable social media and marketing skills. The position requires working at least 20 hours per week at our office located in Greenwich, CT. This internship is unpaid.

General Responsibilities:

  • Identify avenues for media partnership to increase brand awareness for both the organization and the Youth Assembly
  • Develop press kits, flyers, booklets, and other communication materials
  • Assist the Communications Specialist in handling press inquiries
  • Assist in executing communication activities on site during the Youth Assembly, including interviews, broadcasts, media activations, and documentation
  • Draft or proofread press releases and other communication vehicles as needed
  • Contact members of the press to cover significant events during the Youth Assembly
  • Assist the Youth Assembly team with other miscellaneous tasks as needed

Digital Design

Interns will play a vital role in the development of communication materials and digital assets and help transform our strategic goals into dynamic and engaging visuals.

  • Understand and translate strategic organization goals and requirements into visually compelling materials
  • Create graphics for social media, website, newsletters, and email campaigns
  • Design, layout, or edit certificates, banners, flyers, booklet, signages, Powerpoint templates, and other conference materials
  • Maintain brand identities across print and digital platforms
  • Lead video content development and production
  • Organize and maintain photo, video, and media archives
  • Help maintain and update websites using Squarespace and WordPress

Social Media

Requirements:
